Construction automation at Skanska

In 2017, Robotdalen completed a pioneering concept project with robot automation for large building structures , together with Skanska and ABB .

The construction industry is today exposed to fierce competition and needs to sharpen its processes, both in terms of cost and time. At present, the industry has a low degree of automation. The goal of the project was to develop a new application for automated assembly of reinforcement baskets for different types of concrete structures, a process that is today done by hand. The automated concept uses a robot system with three industrial robots.

For Robotdalen, the project included a simulation of the entire concept, tool development and a physically scaled-down demonstrator. The project also included design and construction as well as project management and system architecture of the entire concept.
